About the Academy
A covenant, quietly kept since 2008.
Agape Christian Homeschool Academy was founded in Chattanooga, Tennessee, by a small coalition of classical educators and Reformed pastors who believed the next generation deserved a faith-rooted, academically rigorous education that did not separate discipleship from learning.
Chapter I · Confession
What we believe and teach.
Our doctrinal statement is the foundation beneath every lesson plan, every mentorship call, and every transcript we issue. It is reviewed, co-signed, and renewed each year by every classical educator on our roster and by our six-member theological review board.
We confess the historic Christian faith as summarized in the Apostles' and Nicene Creeds. We affirm the inerrancy and sufficiency of Holy Scripture, the Triune God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — and the saving work of Jesus Christ as crucified, risen, and reigning. We teach that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and that every domain of learning belongs to Him.
We hold to a classical understanding of education: the cultivation of virtue, eloquence, and wisdom through the great texts of the Christian West, the careful study of Latin and logic, and the patient formation of conscience. We are unapologetically confessional and broadly Reformed in our reading of the gospel, the sacraments, and the life of the church.
We do not treat education as a neutral enterprise. Every subject is taught within the story of God's redemption, and every mentor is expected to walk alongside the families they serve with both intellectual seriousness and pastoral tenderness. Parents remain the primary disciple-makers of their children; the academy exists to come alongside that calling, not to replace it.

The Mentor Model
A deliberately small roster of classical educators.
Most homeschool programs offer a curriculum and a portal. We offer a person. Each student is paired with a dedicated classical educator who walks alongside the family for the duration of their enrolment — reviewing work, conferring on reading lists, and praying with parents when a term goes sideways.
Our mentor roster is intentionally lean. Fewer than twelve percent of educators who apply are accepted onto it. Those who are admitted hold a classical degree or equivalent, are interviewed by the theological review board, and co-sign the doctrinal statement annually.
- Weekly 1:1 academic coaching — a thirty-minute call, screen-shared or by phone, paced to the student's stage.
- Quarterly family conferences — parent, student, and mentor set goals, review transcripts, and recalibrate.
- Discipleship, not just curriculum — mentors are trained to ask how the soul is doing, not only the assignment.
- Continuity across years — a student who joins in fourth grade keeps the same mentor through graduation.
Chapter II · Counsel
The theological review board.
Six pastors and theologians who co-sign the academy's faith statement and audit doctrinal alignment each spring. They are a named body that parents and pastors can recognize and write to.

Annual doctrinal review
Each January, the board reconvenes to review every mentor's signed faith statement, audit classroom materials for confessional drift, and recommend any theological updates to the curriculum.

Mentor interviews & vetting
Prospective classical educators are interviewed by at least two members of the board before joining the roster. Denominational alignment, family doctrine, and pastoral sensibility are all part of the conversation.

Pastoral counsel to families
On request, board members are available to consult with families navigating doctrinal questions — church planting transfers, denominational shifts, or disputes with local school districts over homeschool law.
The review board is drawn from a coalition of Reformed pastors and theologians in the Chattanooga area and across the Southeast. Member names are available to enrolled families upon written request.

2008
The founding coalition.
Eight classical educators and four Reformed pastors in Chattanooga, Tennessee, gathered around a kitchen table to draft a curriculum and a confession. The first forty-one students enrolled that autumn.

2011
ACCS accreditation granted.
The Association of Christian Classical Schools granted full accreditation (ID 04412), making the academy one of the earliest homeschool programs to earn the distinction.

2012
The first graduating cohort.
Twelve students completed the academy program — every one of whom went on to a four-year college or a year of classical gap-year study. We have graduated a class every year since.

2024
National recognition.
Named "Editor's Pick" by The Old Schoolhouse Magazine (Spring 2024) and a Top 10 Christian Homeschool Program by HomeSchool.com for the second consecutive year. The academy now serves 2,347 active students across 47 states and 19 countries.
